Virtually all active (those with a volume control) computer speakers are
12 volt systems via a transformer from the mains.
Open up the speakers, snip the wires after the transformer, remove it
and the amplifier is ready for a bike.
I used 3.5" waterproof speakers, which cost quite a lot (16.00) via
esales@o-w-l.co.uk, who's based in Tamworth. Although the original
speakers would work just as well, however with the British climate being
what it is and me using the bike for work, rest and play
The MP3 holder was plastic heated to bend to shape, with QUIKSTEEL
shaped to hold the mini-jack in place. This allows for quick removal
when parking.
I made the speaker housings from Vacuum forming plastic which needs only
a little heat to allow bending (an off-cut was obtained by the back door
of a factory).
I made the amplifier housing to fit the left-side fairing pocket, but as
so many others have done: it could be pre-set to a volume and secured
anywhere around the bike.
