(Did I spell that right?)

STEERING HEAD BEARINGS (cont)

For those of you pursuing the tappered bearing route, here's the
real offical, no errors, if this doesn't work, you can't do it. . . .
info! The tappered bearing kit is. . . . .

Parts Plus (performance equipment) part number SSH903R

available thru the Hap Jones Parts network. (Probably some
others too.) Those of you doing the generic search might have
some luck with that info. As I mentioned before (I think. . ..)
the top dust cover is "taller" than the stock one if you switch
to tappered bearings (included in the above kit).
The package lists the Honda CB750SC (shaft), Honda
VFR750FG/GH/FJ/FK and a whole bunch other Hondas. So maybe you'll
be able to find another (cheaper??) company's kit to fit one of
those and it should fit the ST. (JC Whitney, anyone? They have quite
a few tappered replacement kits listed, but I don't have a catalog
here.) (Could I pay my way thru college {HEY! Its already paid for!}
by going around installing tappered bearings in Hondas??)

Welcome to all the Compuserve Users reading STuff. (Jim -- get a real
job!! {I can't believe he has his own ST1100 micro-fiche. . .})

WINDSHIELDS:

Grant Norman sent me a nice letter including the info for Clearview.
800-798-6089 Craig Stenger, owner. They do the 'touring' windshield
for the ST (I consider the Rifle very nice, and adequate. But for
true "touring" it's still narrow.) It flairs out to the sides
and the height is customizable. It looks good. One ST rider I've met
says it has a bit of optical distortion but he still looks out
over it so no problem. Best of all -- cost. <$100 if I remember right.

TIRES:
If you ever get stuck for a rear tire, the ST will take a
size 170/60-17. Thats a more available size than the correct
160/70-17. It is a bit smaller. It'll lower your gearing making
the engine rev a couple hundred RPMs higher. No big deal.
If you ride hard enough you'll also lose a tad of ground
clearance. Anyone looking to make their ST more sporty might
consider that size, or even a 160/60-17 to lower their gearing
and get better performance from the engine. (In theory.)

If you are wondering why I mention this, its becaues I have
to go back to my dealer tomorow and figure out what they're going
to do to make-up for putting the wrong tire on my bike earlier
last week. Somewhere, the 160/70 I ordered became a 170/60.
ARGHH!!

Anyone know of a company making a 160/80-17 rear tire?? I want
to RAISE the gears on the ST to make it even taller.

Anyway, that should be the last you'all see from me until mid-June.
Get out and ride! The ST starts to run REAL sweet after it gets
50k miles on the clock!!
